Mini-Cheerleading Coach
Breast Cancer Survivor
Jennifer detected her breast cancer through a self-examination. Following a mastectomy, her husband, Scott, and their three children took over the household responsibilities, giving her strict orders to focus on her recovery. While Jennifer admits “it was tough to sit still,” she was very grateful for her family’s support.
One of Jennifer’s passions was serving as a mini-cheerleading coach for the Lake Lehman School District, something she’s done for the past three years. Shortly after her breast cancer was diagnosed, two Lake Lehman High School seniors created a “Cheer for a Cure” competition to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The event is now an annual competition.
Jennifer herself remains active as the volunteer race spokesperson for Candy’s Place, a cancer support center in Forty-Fort. She’s also an active participant in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Scranton.
Having had breast cancer at a young age, her message of awareness is clear. “Take an active role in managing your own health,” she says, “since breast cancer can strike at any age.”
