  • Breast Cancer Volunteer
  • Breast Cancer Survivor
Michele was a newlywed of nine months when she discovered a lump in her breast. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cancer. Early consultation with her doctors gave Michele hope that a lumpectomy could remove the cancer entirely, but ultimately that was not the case. A mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation were necessary.

During her recovery, Michele’s husband served as a major force in her healing process. She also credits the love and support she received from family and friends, her strong faith in God, and her doctors in helping her through this experience. Cancer affects more than just the patient, and Michele learned that a strong support system is important throughout the journey, beginning to end.

Today, Michele is a member of the Blue Mountain Women’s Cancer Support Group and has volunteered her time at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the American Cancer Society.

After her breast reconstruction is completed, Michele plans to return to work as a tax preparer. She wants every individual coping with breast cancer to know there is life after cancer. “Some valuable life lessons,” she says, “can only be learned through treatment and recovery.”
