Christy Haberstroh
Age 53
Resident of Lycoming County
Administrative Aide
Mother of Two
Breast Cancer Survivor
Christy just reached her fourth anniversary of being cancer free, thanks to early detection of her breast cancer through an annual mammogram.
As the administrative aide to the Mayor of Williamsport, Christy found herself in a unique position to help raise community awareness about the disease. In October of 2008, Christy was instrumental in helping to achieve Mayor Campana’s goal to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She organized an event—a first for the City of Williamsport—in which City Hall was lit with pink spotlights, pink ribbons adorned all office doors, and a special program was conducted on the steps of City Hall.
Since her experience, Christy encourages all women to have their yearly mammograms. “And if you have to face a cancer fight,” she says, “keep your family and friends close.” She credits the strength and support she received from her loved ones as the key to her recovery.
Breast cancer is a terrible disease, but it’s given Christy a new outlook on life, and she feels blessed every day to be alive.
