Kathleen D. Feik
  • Age 62
  • Resident of Wayne County
  • School Secretary
  • Grandmother of Six
  • Breast Cancer Survivor
Kathleen’s breast cancer was detected by a yearly mammogram. She underwent a lumpectomy, followed by a partial mastectomy and radiation treatments. She says the strength and support she received from her husband, Vincent, was key during this time.

While Kathleen underwent treatment, she read numerous articles written by breast cancer survivors, including a book about Pink Ribbon quilts. Since then, she’s made many quilts, not only for breast cancer patients but also for friends and family members dealing with cancer. Kathleen signs her quilts “Sewn with hope and made with love.”

Active in her church in Honesdale, Kathleen is a member of the church’s Wellness Committee, for which she has chaired two breast cancer programs. She is also a member of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Education Committee.

Today, she’s feeling well and appreciates every day. The message that Kathleen wants to spread is that education and early detection are key. Kathleen says to all women forty and over, “The best birthday gifts you can give yourself are a mammogram, a yearly clinical exam and learning to give yourself a monthly self-exam. They may save your life.”
