Rosanne Hawke–Luceno
  • Age 64
  • Resident of Luzerne County
  • Retired
  • Mother and Grandmother
  • Breast Cancer Survivor
Rosanne’s breast cancer was detected by her annual mammogram. She decided to have a mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Roseanne credits the strength and support she received from her husband, her doctors, other breast cancer survivors, her extended family and friends and her strong faith with helping her through her recovery. Rosanne refused to have cancer stop her from enjoying life, saying "It's important to listen to your medical team, think positive, pray, hope, keep doing what you enjoy doing, and don't worry."

Since her experience, Rosanne strongly encourages friends and family to conduct breast self-exams and to have their annual mammogram. “Lives are saved by early detection,” she says. She also offers one-on-one support and encouragement to others who are dealing with breast cancer.

Today, Rosanne has a positive outlook for the future. She enjoys going to casinos and is learning how to fly fish. “Cancer inspired me to get busy with the items on my ‘to-do’ list,” she says.
