Vital Statistics
Stanley Parulski
  • Age 73
  • Resident of Luzerne County
  • Retired Draftsman
  • Church Treasurer
  • Breat Cancer Survivor
One day in 1987, Stanley felt a lump on his chest. He brought the lump to his family doctor’s attention during a routine physical. His doctor recommended surgery to remove the lump, which turned out to be a cancerous tumor. Nine months of chemotherapy treatments followed.

Support and care from his wife was critical during his experience with breast cancer. Now retired after 47 years as a draftsman, Stanley stays active by lifting weights and exercising on his treadmill three times a week. He’s also active in his church, volunteering as church treasurer for the past 25 years, and cutting grass at the church cemetery until just a few years ago.

Stanley is never hesitant to talk about his breast cancer. He wants the community to know that the disease can strike men, too, and that, just like in women, early detection is the key. Looking back, he feels very fortunate to have gone for his routine physical in 1987 when he did.
