Asthma Management Program

Treatment of asthma is most effective when the member understands his/her condition and plays an active role in the management of it. Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania offers the Asthma Management Program for members ages 2 years and older.

Program materials that help members achieve good levels of control include education on:

  • Understanding what asthma is and what it does
  • Knowing the names, purpose, recommended frequency of use and the side effects of their medications
  • Understanding the usage of a peak flow meter, inhalers and an asthma action plan
  • Knowing their triggers
  • Keeping regularly scheduled appointments with their doctors to discuss concerns about asthma or its treatment and
  • Knowing when to call the doctor for advice

The Asthma Program Care Coordinators work with you and your doctors to achieve the best possible care plan for managing asthma. For more information, call a Care Coordinator toll-free at 1-866-262-4764, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
