BlueCare Senior

Highmark Blue Shield
BlueCare Senior has been designed to supplement Medicare insurance. It helps to
cover health care costs that Medicare either does not pay in full or does not
pay at all. For example, when you go to the doctor or hospital for services
covered by Medicare, you must pay part of the cost. If you receive services not
covered by Medicare, you must pay all of the cost. BlueCare Senior fills in the
gaps. It covers some or all of the deductibles and coinsurance that Medicare
does not pay and provides additional benefits.
With BlueCare Senior, there’s no need to select a Primary Care Physician or to
get a referral to see a specialist. And, because BlueCare Senior is offered by
Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Highmark Blue Shield, you can
select your health care providers from a large selection of doctors,
specialists and hospitals.
Your employer may offer a BlueCare Major Medical component that provides
coverage for services not covered by Medicare or by BlueCare Senior. Your
employer may also offer a prescription drug benefit as part of BlueCare Major
Medical or with a separate prescription drug rider.
