Health Improvement Partnership
In 2007, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania joined forces with Susquehanna Health to collaborate on community health outreach and early intervention programs in and around Lycoming County.
The two organizations have jointly committed their resources to the LifeCenter at the Lycoming Mall, which first opened in 1992 to make health improvement and prevention services conveniently accessible to large numbers of people in a community setting.
With strong involvement from health experts at both organizations, the LifeCenter offers an array of services and events such as: free health screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, colorectal cancer and other health conditions; one-to-one consultations; workshops on good nutrition and healthy cooking; age-appropriate health activities for youngsters; and a library of videos, DVDs, books, magazines, and newsletters to help individuals make better decisions about their health.
Since January 2014, the LifeCenter has handled more than 4,000 visits for screenings, classes, consultations, displays and general health information.
“This partnership for prevention compliments Susquehanna Health’s mission of improving the health status of those we serve,” says Steven P. Johnson, Susquehanna Health president & CEO. “We believe our free screenings, classes and programs at the LifeCenter encourage individuals from the region to take a more active role in their health. “
Dr. Nina M. Taggart, vice president of clinical operations and interim chief medical officer, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania agrees, saying “This partnership is a great example of how Blue Cross is putting its commitment to community health into action.“
