April 2, 2012, Wilkes-Barre, PA – On March 27, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Susquehanna Health hosted the 5th annual Diabetes Alert Day event at The LifeCenter in the Lycoming Mall. About 100 individuals took part in the event.
Participants were encouraged to take a free diabetes risk assessment to understand their risk for developing the disease. Additional free screenings included blood pressure, BMI (body mass index), glucose, and total cholesterol, and free educational sessions were offered by certified clinicians on topics such as Cholesterol Levels, Eating Healthy to Prevent and Manage Diabetes, and CPR Anytime.
In 2007, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania joined forces with Susquehanna Health to collaborate on community health outreach and early intervention programs in and around Lycoming County. The two organizations have jointly committed their resources to The LifeCenter at the Lycoming Mall, which first opened in 1992 to make health improvement and prevention services conveniently accessible to large numbers of people in a community setting.
