Regional YMCAs are hosting events April 28
April 24, 2012, Wilkes-Barre, PA — On Saturday, April 28, YMCAs across the country will host “Healthy Kids Day” events to encourage families to stay active through the summer months as school activities end.
Recognizing the importance of promoting exercise and helping families make healthy lifestyle choices, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) is participating with five regional YMCAs to present Healthy Kids Day events across northeastern and north central Pennsylvania.
“During the summer, these programs offer the chance to try new activities as a family including some children may not be exposed to during the school year,” said Dr. Nina Taggart, Vice President of Clinical Operations for BCNEPA. “Healthy Kids Day is a great way for families to learn healthy habits they can practice together throughout the summertime.”
BCNEPA encourages local families to participate in the following Healthy Kids Day celebrations:
The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA (Wilkes-Barre), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with healthy snacks, water safety demonstrations and ZumbAtomic fitness sessions
The Greater Scranton YMCA (Dunmore), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a youth fun run, community health fair and water safety demonstrations
The Hazleton YMCA/YWCA (Hazleton), from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an open swim and ZumbAtomic fitness sessions
The Pocono Family YMCA (Stroudsburg), from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with tennis demonstrations, karate demonstrations and rock climbing
The Eastern Lycoming YMCA (Muncy), from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with interactive games and activities, and a puppet show encouraging healthy habits.
