Medical Directors Join Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania

Dr. Brian J. Marien (left) and Dr. James L. Sundheim (center) have been named Associate Medical Directors for Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Dr. John J. Viteritti, (right) has also been named Medical Director, Network Management and Provider Operations.

Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) recently added local physicians Brian J. Marien, M.D., R.V.T., F.A.C.S., and James L. Sundheim, M.D., F.A.C.R., to its staff as Associate Medical Directors.

Dr. Marien, a vascular and general surgeon in Kingston, and Dr. Sundheim, a diagnostic radiologist until recently with Radiological Consultants, Inc. in Dunmore, will work within BCNEPA’s Medical Management department on all aspects of utilization review, including medical and pharmaceutical requests, as well as quality oversight.

Dr. Marien is an attending surgeon with more than 10 years of experience at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) in Scranton.  Dr. Sundheim has more than 35 years of experience as a radiologist with Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton and with Regional Hospital of Scranton and is a member of the clinical faculty at TCMC.

BCNEPA also recently named John J. Viteritti, D.O., as Medical Director, Network Management and Provider Operations.  Dr. Viteritti is an emergency physician with more than 13 years of experience, most recently with Lehigh Valley Physicians Group in Allentown.  He has also been on staff in the Emergency Department at Regional Hospital of Scranton and with Sapphire Emergency Physicians in Kingston.   

Drs. Marien, Sundheim and Viteritti join Jeffery Kile, M.D., M.H.A., F.A.A.P., of Pediatric Associates of Kingston and Neil Lesitsky, M.D., of Penn Kidder Medical Center in Albrightsville on BCNEPA’s staff of Medical Directors.
