Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its annual Healthy Workplace Awards luncheon at Ridgecrest at Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg.
James McClurefrom Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania presented the 2013 Healthy Workplace of the Year Award to East Stroudsburg University. During the 2012/2013 academic year, East Stroudsburg University created the WellU Committee to develop opportunities for faculty and staff to engage in healthy lifestyle choices. Two Wellness Walks were organized, allowing employees to utilize the campus track during lunchtime, as well as group fitness classes offered free of charge at the campus wellness center. During its inaugural year, 85 percent of faculty and staff participated in the wellness program.
Pocono Medical Center received the 2013 Continuing Excellence Award as a previous Healthy Workplace Award winner that continues to pursue workplace wellness. At Pocono Medical Center, more than 400 employees participate in the company’s wellness program, which includes a wellness committee, a healthy menu initiative, a wellness fair, nutrition counseling, an employee wellness website, physical activity classes and Weight Watchers at Work.
The Healthy Workplace Awards are sponsored by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, ChamberChoice and seven Chambers of Commerce across northeastern and north central Pennsylvania to salute businesses that invest in employee wellness.
